Property swapping is where owners of vacation rental properties agree to exchange their properties for a short period of time, usually at reduced or no cost to either party. Swapping is a great way for property owners to see other parts of the world without spending a significant portion of their vacationing budget on lodging by bartering their rental assets.
VacationPads listings conveniently display an icon on the left side of the listings' pages that indicates whether or not the associated owner is interested in swapping. Please contact the owner of the property directly to inquire about their interest in swapping.
Here are some tips for swapping:
Just as if you were to rent a property at full-cost, be sure to conduct a thorough investigation of the property and its owner prior to agreeing to a swap.
If the properties for swap are significantly different in value, do not expect to arrange an equal-value swap. If your property is lower valued than the property you're interested in swapping with, you might want to consider offering the other owner a longer stay at your rental or offering some sort of reduced cash compensation.
It is often easier to arrange swaps during the off-seasons for the relevant properties.
Arrange all swaps as if they are paid-for rentals; this includes understanding and abiding to rental agreements, receiving written confirmations, honoring check-in/check-out times and maintaining the home as if it were your own during your stay.
