Your security is our goal
We want our members and site visitors to feel confident about the protection of their personal information while using our site. As part of our commitment, we have implemented a security program to keep the information you provide protected from unauthorized access. The following describes the measures we take to ensure your virtual security and protect your information on the Internet:
|
Data Encryption
VacationPads uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for secure data transmissions. SSL applies encryption between two communicating applications, such as your PC and our corporate Internet server. When your data is transmitted over the Internet, it is encrypted or "scrambled" at the sending end and then decrypted or "unscrambled" at the receiving end. We use 128-bit encryption (the strongest commerically available) during checkout transactions, member registration and modification of member details.
Locations on our site that initiate secure data transmissions include user registration, account details modification, and checkout.
VacationPads has obtained a digital security certificate from GeoTrust, Inc., a leading provider of security solutions and software to protect and manage computer network access. To view the certificate on each secured page, click the closed lock or solid key icon located in the bottom bar of your browser. A small frame displaying site security information will appear.
- For Microsoft Internet Explorer users, click the Details tab on the frame, and click Subject to verify that you see www.vacationpads.com. Click Issuer to view and verify the site certificate authority.
- For Netscape Navigator/Communicator users, click the View button on the Security tab. Verify that www.vacationpads.com appears in the "Issued To" statement, and verify the site certificate authority in the "Issued By" statement.

How to protect yourself online
To help protect yourself from fraud while participating in online transactions, here are some simple measures you can take:
- Verify that the web address, or URL, of the site you are visiting is actually the URL of the site you intended to visit.
- Verify that secured pages have a web address that begins with "https" (the "s" indicating a secure transmission).
- Verify that a closed lock or solid key icon appears in the bottom bar of your browser on secured pages.
- Be sure to logout using the "Logout" link when you are finished with your activities as a logged-in member, as opposed to only closing your browser.
- Install anti-virus software and ensure that it is routinely updated to the latest versions.
- Only open emails by individuals you know or businesses you have associations with.
- Never send financial information via email.
